Magician in Arlington

Across the river from Washington: federal contracting and Amazon HQ2.

Arlington is a fly-in to Reagan National, which is in the county. It is where a great deal of federal contracting actually happens, and Amazon's second headquarters has added a substantial technology layer on top of the defence and government economy.

What gets booked in Arlington

Federal contractors, defence firms and now technology drive corporate hospitality: client evenings, contract award celebrations, association receptions and holiday parties, mostly in Crystal City, Rosslyn and Ballston. The Pentagon's proximity means a constant military event rhythm. Audiences are international and highly credentialed, which suits mentalism. Rates run below downtown Washington while drawing the same guests.

Where these shows happen in Arlington

Arlington and Crystal City are hotel ballroom country, and most of what I work here is a reception in one. Rosslyn and Ballston hold the consultancies and the trade groups that wanted a Washington address without a Washington lease, and their events are client hospitality and internal celebrations rather than public galas.

The practical point about this side of the river is that it is ten minutes from National airport and a Metro ride from downtown. A date in Arlington and a date in Washington on consecutive evenings is genuinely one trip out of one hotel, which is worth knowing before you book either of them separately.

Getting there

A fly-in date from Milwaukee. Flights and time on the ground are either built into the package or shown as a separate line on your quote, agreed before anything is booked and never added afterwards.

Booking a fly-in act, if you have not before

I fly into National the day before, stay over, and fly home after. Arriving early keeps a delayed connection off your event and lets me walk the room before your guests are in it.

Strolling close-up needs nothing from the venue. No stage, no sound, no lighting, no setup window. A stage show needs a microphone and somewhere to stand, and the hotels here all have both.

Travel is a separate agreed line on the quote, priced before you commit. If your organization is also running something in Washington, Tysons or Bethesda that week, mention it, because the travel then splits across two dates instead of doubling.

Straight answers

Booking a magician in Arlington

Is Arlington treated as a Washington date or a Virginia one?

Practically, it is one working area. Arlington, Crystal City, Rosslyn, downtown Washington and the Maryland side of the Beltway all run from a single hotel on a single trip. Book it as an Arlington date and if you have a second event nearby that week, say so and the travel splits across both.

We are a contractor holding a client reception. What format?

Strolling close-up. A client reception is a room full of people who need to talk to each other and do not yet have a reason to. Close-up magic gives them one, in small groups, without stopping the evening or putting anyone on a stage in front of a customer.

What does it cost?

It depends on format, length and headcount, with travel quoted as its own line so nothing is hidden inside the fee. Send the date, the venue and roughly how many guests and you will normally have a number back the same day.

Do you work government or cleared environments?

I work the events, not the buildings. If your event is in a hotel or a restaurant, which most client receptions are, there is nothing to arrange. If you are asking about performing inside a secure facility, ask me early, because that is a question for your security office rather than for me.

How far ahead should we book?

Gala and holiday season fills first, so hold a December date as early as you can. Outside those windows a few weeks is often enough, and flights into National at short notice are more workable than people expect.
