Maryland is a fly-in state for me. It is thirteen hours by road from Milwaukee, which is a day I would rather spend rehearsing than driving, so I book into BWI and work out of one hotel for the length of the stay.
That suits the way Maryland dates cluster. Bethesda, Rockville and National Harbor sit close enough together that a Thursday evening in one and a Friday lunch in another is a normal week. Flights and ground travel are either built into the package or itemised on your quote, agreed before anything is booked.
What I get booked for in Maryland
Two economies drive the work here. The I-270 corridor runs on life sciences, federal contracting and cybersecurity, and those companies hold a lot of internal events, from team milestones to contract wins, where a speech on its own is not enough.
The other is association work. A great deal of what meets in Washington actually sleeps and meets in Maryland, at National Harbor or the Baltimore Convention Center, and those groups want something for the reception rather than the general session. Annapolis brings the private side: waterfront weddings, club dinners, retirement parties.
Where these shows happen
The I-270 corridor books into hotel and conference space around Rockville, Gaithersburg and Bethesda, and into the company's own space more often than you would think, because a life sciences firm celebrating a milestone frequently wants it in the building where the work happened. Those rooms are not set up for entertainment, which is exactly why strolling close-up suits them.
National Harbor and the Baltimore Convention Center carry the association and conference work, with the receptions and hospitality suites that come attached. Annapolis is the private side, waterfront clubs and hotels, weddings and retirement dinners, mostly seasonal and mostly outdoors in summer.

Maryland is a fly-in date for me, and it runs the same way every time.
I book into BWI the day before, work out of one hotel for the length of the stay, and fly home after. Arriving early is deliberate. It takes the risk of a delayed connection off your event and lets me see the room before it fills.
Strolling close-up asks nothing of the venue. No stage, no sound, no lighting, no setup time, no change to your schedule. A stage show needs a microphone and a place to stand, confirmed in writing before you book.
Travel is a separate, agreed line on your quote. Flights, hotel and ground transport, priced before you commit. Because Bethesda, Rockville and National Harbor sit so close together, two dates in one week is a normal booking and splits the travel across both.

We want something for a team event, not a stage show. What do you suggest?
Strolling close-up through the room. It works for a team milestone or a contract win because it does not stop the evening to make everyone sit and watch something. People stay in conversation, the magic comes to them in small groups, and the room gets louder rather than quieter.
Is this actually team building, or just entertainment?
Be honest with yourself about which you want, because they are different things. What this does reliably is put people who do not normally talk into the same small group having the same reaction at the same moment. That is worth a great deal at a team event, and it is not a trust fall or a facilitated exercise. If you need a structured program, I am not the right call.
What does it cost?
The fee depends on format, length and headcount, and travel is quoted separately so it is never buried. Send the date, the venue and roughly how many people and you will usually get a real figure back the same day.
Our conference is at National Harbor. Do you work the reception or the general session?
Either, and the reception is usually the better spend. A general session has a program already and an audience that has been sitting all day. The reception is where a conference either comes alive or dies quietly, and strolling magic is built for exactly that room.
Can one trip cover a Maryland date and a Washington one?
Yes, and it should. Bethesda, Rockville, National Harbor and downtown Washington are one working area from a single hotel. A Thursday evening in one and a Friday lunch in another is a normal week, and the travel cost splits across both bookings.
