Magician in Los Angeles
A big market with one planning problem, and the problem is the drive across town
Los Angeles is a fly-in, and the flight is the straightforward part. Getting from the hotel to your venue is not. Twenty miles across town at six in the evening can take ninety minutes, so I plan the day around traffic rather than the clock and turn up long before I am needed.
I treat Los Angeles, San Diego and the Bay Area as three separate markets. Travel is built into the package or itemised on your quote, agreed before anything is booked.
What gets booked in Los Angeles
The work splits cleanly. There is the industry side, which is agency and studio-adjacent events, launches, wrap parties and brand activations, where the room has seen a lot and is hard to impress. I like that room. Then there is everything else the city actually runs on: aerospace in the South Bay, healthcare, logistics around the ports, law and property.
Private hosting is a larger share of my bookings here than in most cities. Awards season makes January and February worse than they already are, so those weeks go early.
Getting there
A fly-in date from Milwaukee. Flights and time on the ground are either built into the package or shown as a separate line on your quote, agreed before anything is booked — never added afterwards.
Also covered nearby: Pasadena, Santa Monica, Burbank, Glendale, Long Beach, Beverly Hills.
