A lot of what lands in Providence is work that did not fit Boston's prices. Regional association meetings and mid-sized conventions come to the convention centre downtown for exactly that reason, and they tend to book entertainment carefully because the budget is real.

The universities are the other engine: donor events, alumni receptions, reunion weekends and department dinners through the academic year. Summer belongs to weddings, especially once you get toward the water at Newport. Corporate holiday parties are steady but book later than they do in the Midwest.
