Magician in Raleigh

Triangle audiences try to work out how it was done, which is exactly the point

Raleigh is a flight. Travel is either built into the package or itemised on your quote, agreed before anything is booked, and I usually build the trip around one evening rather than trying to stack two.

The Triangle is engineers, researchers and academics, and the rooms reflect that. People here are used to being the smartest person in the meeting, and they watch closely. Mentalism works better on that kind of audience than on a distracted one — being taken seriously as a problem is the best thing that can happen to a piece.

What gets booked in Raleigh

Research Triangle Park sets the calendar: biotech and pharmaceutical companies, software firms, and the three universities feeding all of it. Bookings arrive as team offsites, department celebrations, product launches and user conferences rather than the big banking-style gala you would get down in Charlotte.

The academic year matters more here than in most cities. Spring and early autumn are dense with conferences, midsummer goes quiet, and December fills up the way it does everywhere. Executive retreats tend to head for Cary and Chapel Hill rather than downtown, and those smaller rooms are where close-up work earns its keep.

Getting there

A fly-in date from Milwaukee. Flights and time on the ground are either built into the package or shown as a separate line on your quote, agreed before anything is booked — never added afterwards.

Also covered nearby: Cary, Durham, Chapel Hill, Apex, Morrisville, Wake Forest.
