Derby distorts the whole year, and the first Saturday in May books furthest ahead
Louisville is about seven hours from Milwaukee, which means I drive. No flights, no shipping, and a Friday evening date does not have to become a whole weekend.
The city books a wide range: Derby-week hospitality, corporate dinners for the logistics and bourbon companies headquartered here, trade-show floors at the Kentucky Exposition Center, and private parties out toward Prospect and Jeffersontown. Travel is built into the package or itemised on your quote, agreed before anything is booked.
What gets booked in Louisville
Derby distorts everything. The first Saturday in May pulls corporate hospitality in from all over the country, and the parties around Thurby and Oaks are a market of their own — smaller rooms, high-value guests, entertainment that has to work while people are talking and drinking. Those dates go earlier than anything else on my calendar.
The rest of the year is steadier. The Exposition Center runs genuinely large shows, including the farm machinery show in February, where booth magic earns its keep. Humana, UPS and the distilleries keep client dinners and holiday parties running from October onward.
Getting there
Roughly 7 hours by road from Milwaukee. That is normally still a drive rather than a flight, which means the full show travels with me, and travel is either built into the package or itemised on your quote, agreed before anything is booked.
